# ABL Films

## What ABL Films does

- **Live-action commercial production.** Concept through final delivery, in-house.
  Producers and directors in Nicosia and Beirut, with crews the company has worked with
  repeatedly in each territory. Built around large-scale shoots where a setup costs
  thousands per hour.
- **Tabletop, food and liquid.** The BOLT studio in Nicosia. Shots that follow a drop
  from the air to its splash, repeated identically take after take.
- **Product and e-commerce video at volume.** The KINISI system: 30+ finished products a
  day, every product in a range moving through the identical camera move so a whole
  catalogue cuts together as one piece.
- **Animation, VFX and post-production.** Working in VFX and CGI since the 1990s. A
  post-production team established in Greece in 2005 covers VFX, 3D and 2D animation and
  motion graphics; there is no Greek office, the capability is delivered from there.
- **Scientific and heritage digitisation.** Museum and research collections captured on
  the KINISI rig as photo, video and photogrammetry at fixed settings, delivered into the
  collection's own database.

## BOLT: high-speed motion control

The only BOLT cinebot in Cyprus, and ABL Films is the only studio in the region offering
one. A Mark Roberts Motion Control six-axis robotic arm on a pedestal, moving at 2 metres
per second while repeating a move precisely enough to composite against.

- **Cameras.** Two Phantom high-speed cameras, recording above 1000 fps. ABL Films is the
  only company in Cyprus with a Phantom. Phantom plus BOLT is what produces slow-motion
  liquid splashes, powder detonating in mid-air, and fruit turning slowly in frame.
- **Crew.** An in-house director, plus exclusive representation of tabletop director and
  DOP Karpick. Full lighting package in-house.
- **SFX engineering.** Custom rigs built in-house and synchronised to the BOLT, the
  Phantom and the lighting: controlled explosions, precise pours, a hamburger maker,
  waterfalls, treadmills. All built to repeat.
- **Glambot.** The BOLT is the same robot taken to red carpets as a Glambot, used here for
  fashion and beauty. Beauty clients include L'Oreal, Wella and Bioscience.
- **3D tracking.** Every BOLT move is saved in 3D coordinate space with its lens data, and
  imports directly into Maya, Blender, Cinema 4D or any other 3D package, so post gets
  camera data instead of a tracking job.
- **The studio.** A cyclorama in central Nicosia with a 9m straight back wall, two curves
  and 4m side walls. A truck fits through the door. It is underground, which matters
  through a Cyprus summer.
- **Clients shot on the BOLT** include McDonald's, Nestle, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and KFC.

## KINISI: product video and digitisation at volume

A turntable coupled to a 4-axis robot, producing repeatable product video at roughly the
cost of product photography.

- 30+ products per day, with product photography included.
- Unlimited variations and media per product; the identical move repeats across an entire
  range, so a catalogue edits into one continuous showcase.
- 360-degree spins, overhead and close-up signature moves, stop motion.
- Output embeds on Amazon, Etsy, Shopify and WooCommerce product pages, drops into
  existing edits, and scales up to trade-show screens.
- Interactive video, driven by ABL's own software, letting a viewer click through a
  product's features and variants inside the video.
- Photogrammetry from 50cm down to 1mm, for brands and for scientific and archaeological
  collections. Proven at scale on the Senckenberg Museum beetle collection: thousands of
  specimens from sub-millimetre to over four centimetres, all captured on one rig without
  re-tooling.

## Track record

Founded 1991 in Nicosia. Thousands of commercials, feature films, corporate videos and
animations. Filming has covered Cyprus, Lebanon, the Gulf, MENA, North Africa and Europe.

## Apprenticeship

ABL Films runs an apprenticeship for emerging filmmakers, currently open and accepting
applications. It is unpaid and voluntary, and it trains on Cyprus's only BOLT cinebot.
